Our Priorities

Through analyzing member ideas, integrating Census data, and reviewing feedback with Elders, the Community Working Group, and staff, we have identified four priorities. The following four priorities have each become their own chapter in the Generational Plan.

A Feeling of Belonging

Being accepted, valued, and included.

A Feeling of Purpose

Our overarching life direction, our understanding and conviction about our role or mission in life.

A Feeling of Security

A physical state and a state of mind or feeling where we are safe, healthy and stable.

A Feeling of Trust

Being able to count on our families and our neighbours, and an openness between ourselves and our government and leaders.

What are our priorities?

Listening to our people brought forward some clear priorities. These are things we heard often when talking one-on-one at events, getting feedback through online engagement, and from those that responded to Eslhílhkw’iws Chet – the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Census. Some issues were a priority to people no matter where they live, their age, or their gender. With others there was a more focused call to action for specific groups.

The Generational Plan has more details about priorities by geographical location, by age, and gender.

The priorities have been sorted into four feelings. The four feelings describe what is important to us as Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People and the actions we can take to support what we care about. Working together we asked our community “What is important?” and “What can we do about it?”. These four feelings emerged based on our overall desire as Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people to feel Trust, Security, Purpose, and Belonging in our lives and communities. Click on each to learn more.
